Correcting a blunt nose — why the bridge and the nasolabial angle are looked at together, not just the tip
2025. 12. 2.
A blunt nose with a round, wide-looking tip is hard to judge by correcting the tip alone. Organized why the whole structure including the bridge and the nasolabial angle is considered together, and the RIBFIT™ method that uses autologous rib cartilage.

Key points
- The nose’s impression is decided by the bridge descending from the glabella, the tip, and the nasolabial angle between nose and philtrum together.
- A blunt nose can sometimes be corrected by the tip alone, but far more cases require considering the bridge and angles too.
- If artificial implants feel burdensome, the RIBFIT™ method using processed autologous rib cartilage can be an alternative.
“Why does slightly touching just the tip change the whole impression?”
It’s a question often received in consultation. A blunt nose with a round, wide-looking tip can keep the charm the face originally has from showing and give a stuffy impression. But when solving this concern, looking at the tip alone as a single part won’t produce an answer. This article organizes why blunt-nose correction examines the nose’s whole connected structure, and by what criteria the material is chosen.
01
Why can correcting only the tip fall short?
The nose — the bridge that starts from the glabella and descends, the tip, and the nasolabial angle — all together decides the face’s impression. Here, the nasolabial angle refers to the angle between the nose and the philtrum. Because a single nose governs the harmony from forehead to lips, there are many cases where even a slight tip correction makes the image look different.
That said, the nose shape each person wants to have and the image they want differ. A blunt nose too can be sufficient with tip correction alone, but there are far more cases where the bridge and the angles must be considered as well. So in consultation, changes are explained while viewing a virtual image based on a photograph of your own face. In this process you can check right there how the feel you want could apply on your actual face.
02
How is a design that fits my face decided?
It isn’t decided by looking at the nose shape alone — the proportions seen from the side and the dimensionality at the center of the face are examined together in designing. It’s a process of setting the options within the range applicable to the actual face, after hearing sufficiently about the impression you want.
- Proportions seen from the side — whether the line running from the bridge to the tip suits the facial profile
- Dimensionality at the face’s center — whether the dimension the nose creates at the center of the face is in harmony with the overall impression
For those for whom visiting is difficult, a system for communicating by video is also in place, so the possibility of change can be discussed from home or outside through a 1:1 video-call consultation.
03
What options are there if artificial implants feel burdensome?
Recently, preference for using artificial implants has been gradually declining out of worry about side effects such as inflammation or foreign-body sensation. In such cases, a method using autologous tissue can be an alternative.
Existing autologous-tissue methods have shown limits in structural stability and in setting a fine shape — one method that can make up for this drawback is RIBFIT™. The RIBFIT™ process is as follows.
| Step | Content |
|---|---|
| 1. Structural analysis | The nasal structure is analyzed via CT-based 3D simulation |
| 2. Mold fabrication | A custom 3D mold is fabricated based on the analysis |
| 3. Cartilage processing | Harvested rib cartilage is finely processed, placed in the 3D mold, and compressed to high density |
Doing it this way, a bridge with a refined line can be made without silicone. It realizes a line as smooth and fine as silicone while being autologous tissue, so concerns about rejection or side effects can be reduced, and those with a blunt nose can also adjust the height and line as much as they want. The high absorption rate that was a problem of conventional autologous rib-particle rhinoplasty is also improved, so the structure is maintained for a long time with little deformation, and because an additional process such as fascia harvesting isn’t needed, recovery being fast is another feature.

Summary — the whole structure has to be seen together
With a blunt nose, it can be difficult to create the impression you want by touching only the tip. Conversely, unconditionally raising the bridge doesn’t make the impression sharp either. Only when the overall structure of bridge·tip·nasolabial angle is considered together is a natural change possible.
Actual correction cases can be seen in the before-and-after photos.
