Septal Deviation Surgery Recovery Period — and Why Hump and Deviated Nose Are Corrected Together

2026. 6. 10.

A male case where hump, long nose, deviated nose, and septal deviation were all present — the process of straightening the nasal center and adjusting tip direction and length. Major swelling eases in 1–2 weeks, and tissue stabilization proceeds over several months.

Key points

  • When a hump and long nose coexist, the bridge protrusion and downward-drooping tip can create an overall strong, heavy impression.
  • When septal deviation accompanies a deviated nose, what matters isn't only tidying the hump — it's the process of straightening the nasal center and adjusting tip direction and length together.
  • Recovery from septal deviation surgery varies by person, but major swelling mostly eases within 1–2 weeks, and tissue stabilization proceeds over several months.

In structures where the nasal bone is deviated, septal deviation is often present too — and some people report discomfort like nasal congestion or rhinitis. In these cases, not only the external appearance but functional aspects must be examined together.

Through a male case where a protruding hump, drooping tip, deviated nose, and septal deviation coexisted, this article organizes the correction process of straightening the nasal center — and the recovery period.

01

When hump and deviation coexist, why does the approach change?

In this case, the hump made the bridge protrude, forming an uneven line — and on top of that, the tip drooped downward making the nose look long, giving an overall heavy, strong impression. Deviated nose and septal deviation were also present, so the nasal centerline looked shifted to one side — a state where functional aspects had to be considered alongside appearance.

In cases like this, what matters isn't simply tidying the hump — it's the process of straightening the nasal center and adjusting the tip direction and length together. Building a structure that stays stable throughout the recovery period is also an important part.

If the nose feels large relative to the overall facial proportions and the tip points downward with a heavy, stuffy impression, bulbous nose surgery is often considered alongside hump nose surgery.

02

In what order is the surgery planned?

The plan for this case proceeded as follows.

  • Hump tidying — the protruding hump was tidied so the bridge line flows smoothly, while preserving the straight-line image characteristic of a male nose and easing only the overly strong feel.
  • Tip direction & length adjustment — the downward-pointing tip was naturally organized upward through tip cartilage repositioning and tip cartilage tying, and a support structure was formed between the cartilages so a stable shape is maintained over time. The proportion of the long-looking nose was also adjusted.
  • Combined septal deviation correction — nasal bone width was controlled through osteotomy, the tip was stably organized using the septum, and the nasal centerline was straightened. Tidying the wide-looking bridge and bulbous nose surgery were also performed together.
  • Considering surrounding balance — the balance of the columella (nasal pillar), nasolabial angle, and philtrum line was considered together so a tidy flow continues in both frontal and side views.

In the pre-surgery views from several angles, the protrusion at the center of the nose was distinct, and a left-right nostril balance difference was confirmed from below. After surgery, the bridge line that had been prominently curved flowed smoothly, the center seen from below was organized more stably, and the nostril shape that had looked spread changed in a balanced way as the tip center was straightened. The actual before-and-after can be seen in the before-and-after photos.

How long is recovery from septal deviation surgery?

PeriodRecovery flow
1–2 weeksPeriod when major swelling largely subsides
Following monthsTissue stabilization proceeds, and the inside of the nose gradually goes through recovery too

Recovery varies by individual. As tissue stabilizes, the nasal center and tip direction can be expected to gradually settle naturally. Period-by-period care is covered in more detail in the recovery guide.

One thing to note: a deviated nose has a tendency to try to return to its original direction even after correction. That's why thorough explanation before surgery and follow-up checks after surgery matter — and building a structure that remains stable through the recovery period is considered from the planning stage.

04

Summary — stability after recovery requires a straightened center

When hump, long nose, deviated nose, and septal deviation coexist, tidying only the outer line can leave the centerline problem and functional discomfort behind. The nasal center must be straightened and the tip direction, length, and support structure planned together for the nose to settle into a natural, balanced form through recovery. If you're weighing a similar structural feature, we recommend reviewing various cases and thoroughly considering the direction that fits you.

If functional discomfort like nasal congestion is also present, the nasal condition can be checked in a 1:1 video consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions patients ask before a consultation.

How long does recovery from septal deviation surgery take?
It varies by individual, but major swelling generally subsides a lot within 1–2 weeks. Tissue stabilization can then proceed over several months, and the inside of the nose also gradually goes through recovery.
Is it common for a hump nose and septal deviation to be corrected together?
Cases where a hump nose and septal deviation appear together are not uncommon. In those cases, planning often moves in the direction of considering the nasal centerline and internal structure together rather than correcting appearance alone.
How are a long nose and drooping tip adjusted?
Improvement is attempted through the process of organizing the tip direction and adjusting the length proportion. Tip position is adjusted using methods like tip cartilage repositioning and tip cartilage tying, and the plan is made while considering overall facial proportions and balance.

Responses to treatment and recovery progress vary by individual. Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.
