Low, wide nose correction — rhinoplasty before and after (right after surgery)

These KOWON Plastic Surgery rhinoplasty before-and-after photos, taken right after surgery, show the actual direction and structure of the change.

Hello, this is Dr. Kim Hyung-taek of KOWON Plastic Surgery.

This patient’s bridge was low overall, and the tip looked spread, so the whole nose looked wide and blunt. In a case like this, simply raising the bridge makes improvement difficult, so it is important to refine the structure of the tip as well and centre it.

The bridge was built to a height suited to the proportions of the face. The tip structure was refined through tip cartilage repositioning, with tip-cartilage suturing and tip soft-tissue removal done together to reduce the spread-out volume. I also placed a strut between the tip cartilages to give stable support that helps keep the tip from spreading again, and made adjustments based on a natural transition from the bridge to the tip.

I also took the balance of the columella, nasolabial angle and philtrum line into account so that nothing looks awkward from the front or the side. The nasolabial angle and philtrum line were slightly sunken, which made the mouth look protruding, so this was addressed with nasolabial angle correction.

Without using silicone, with a technique of my own, I adjusted the nasolabial angle so that it forms naturally during the rhinoplasty, giving an effect similar to what is known as “cat surgery”. Compared with before surgery, you can see that the mouth looks more set back and the overall look is more refined.

Right after surgery is the stage before the swelling has fully formed, so it is a point at which the bridge and tip lines and the overall structure created by the rhinoplasty can be seen relatively clearly.

KOWON Plastic Surgery starts from natural-looking change, but aims beyond a result that simply doesn’t show — for a “natural-glam” rhinoplasty that brings out the flow of the line and its details.

As recovery goes on and the swelling subsides and the tissues settle, the nose takes on a softer, more natural shape. Rhinoplasty results can differ with each person’s skin and structure, and the more settled final result can be seen after a sufficient recovery period.
