Low, wide nose and flat midface correction — rhinoplasty before and after (right after surgery)
These KOWON Plastic Surgery rhinoplasty before-and-after photos, taken right after surgery, show the actual direction and structure of the change.
Hello, this is Dr. Kim Hyung-taek of KOWON Plastic Surgery.
This patient’s bridge was low overall, the tip looked spread so that the whole nose looked wide and blunt, and the midface was sunken overall, giving the face a flat look. Compared with the sunken midface, the glabella (brow bone) was relatively high — a structure that made the difference in dimension between the upper and lower face stand out even more.
In a case like this, simply raising the bridge isn’t enough; it is important to refine the structure of the tip to centre it while balancing the dimension of the whole face.
I built up the missing bridge height to suit the proportions of the face and the height of the glabella, refined the spread tip through tip cartilage repositioning and tip-cartilage suturing, and removed tip soft tissue as well to reduce unnecessary volume. I also placed a strut between the tip cartilages so the tip can hold a stable height and direction, and adjusted the overall flow so that the line from the bridge to the tip connects naturally from the glabella.
By balancing the columella, nasolabial angle and philtrum line together, the previously sunken midface came through more three-dimensionally, and the flat impression from both the front and the side was improved.
Looking at the profile after surgery, you can see that the contours of the face have clearly changed. The mouth looks more set back, and the face can look smaller.
Right after surgery is the stage before the swelling has fully formed, so it is a point at which the bridge and tip lines and the overall structure created by the rhinoplasty can be seen relatively clearly.
KOWON Plastic Surgery starts from natural-looking change, but aims beyond a result that simply doesn’t show — for a “natural-glam” rhinoplasty that brings out the flow of the line and its details.
As recovery goes on and the swelling subsides and the tissues settle, the nose takes on a softer, more natural shape. Rhinoplasty results can differ with each person’s skin and structure, and the more settled final result can be seen after a sufficient recovery period.
